Himachal CM Orders Probe Into HPPCL Engineer’s Death

Shimla, March 18 — Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday announced that an Additional Chief Secretary (ACS)-level officer will investigate the death of Vimal Negi, chief engineer of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL). However, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur pressed for a CBI inquiry, citing the need for a fair and transparent probe.

Negi had gone missing on March 10, and his body was recovered from Gobind Sagar Lake in Bilaspur on Tuesday. His family and HPPCL employees have alleged that he faced an unfriendly work environment.

Addressing the House, Sukhu assured strict action if the inquiry finds anyone responsible. “The government will not spare anyone found guilty,” he said.

Thakur, however, argued that only a CBI investigation could reveal the truth behind the alleged workplace pressure.

“There are talks that he was under intense pressure at his office. We need to determine what kind of pressure he was under. We’ve been hearing about the HPPCL work environment for some time now. The matter must be handed over to the CBI,” he said.
