State Mahila Congress general secretary removed for ‘indiscipline’

Party leadership dismisses claims of cash-for-ticket scam as politically motivated

Chandigarh, March 12: Suchitra Devi has been stripped of her position as the general secretary of the Haryana Mahila Congress after leveling bribery charges against the party’s central leadership. Haryana Mahila Congress president Pearl Chaudhary issued the expulsion orders this week, citing a breach of organizational norms and the spreading of misinformation.

The controversy arose when Devi declared that a sum of Rs 7 crore was sought from her to secure a candidacy for the Bawal Assembly seat. She asserted that the high command was involved in these financial demands, leading to widespread debate in Haryana’s political circles.

Responding to the claims, the state unit stated that the allegations were “politically motivated” and lacked any factual basis. Leaders maintained that the integrity of the top leadership remains intact and that the party would not tolerate internal attempts to tarnish its reputation.

“Strict action was necessary to maintain discipline and the party’s image,” the state chief declared following a review of the matter. While the development has intensified debate between rival parties, the Congress remains firm that the move was a necessary internal correction to address conduct that violated the party’s core principles.
