Ludhiana, Sept. 24, 2025: Shopkeepers at the vegetable market on Chandigarh Road in Ludhiana successfully foiled a robbery attempt on Tuesday morning, detaining one of the suspects until police arrived.
According to locals, a passerby in Sanjay Gandhi Colony was intercepted by two men on a motorcycle brandishing a sharp-edged weapon. The assailants attempted to snatch cash and a mobile phone from the victim, who raised an alarm. Nearby shopkeepers and residents rushed to help, overpowering one of the men and tying him to a pole before alerting the authorities.
The arrested man, identified as Manjit Singh of Mehrban, was found in possession of a stolen mobile phone and the weapon, confirmed Assistant Sub-Inspector Malkeet Singh. The second suspect, identified as Ravi, managed to flee amid the chaos.
A case has been registered against both accused, and police said a search is ongoing to apprehend the second suspect.
“This quick response by shopkeepers prevented a crime and ensured the suspect was handed over to law enforcement,” ASI Singh noted.
