New Delhi, September 29 – The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of 10 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers as Special Director Generals (DGs) and Special Directors in various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and intelligence agencies. Among them are Himachal Pradesh cadre officer Rakesh Aggarwal and his AGMUT batchmate Anurag Kumar, both from the 1994 batch.
Rakesh Aggarwal, currently Additional DG in the National Investigation Agency (NIA), has been appointed Special DG in NIA on an in-situ basis by temporarily upgrading the post for a two-year tenure. Anurag Kumar, an Additional Director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB), has been similarly appointed Special Director in IB on in-situ basis for two years.
Apart from these two, seven other 1994-batch IPS officers have been upgraded:
- Anupama Nilekar Chandra, ADG in Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), appointed Special DG in SSB for two years.
- Deepak Kumar, ADG in CRPF, appointed Special DG in CRPF for two years.
- Raja Srivastava, ADG in CRPF, appointed Special DG in CRPF till his superannuation on February 28, 2029.
- Amit Kumar, ADG in CRPF, appointed Special DG in CRPF till superannuation on October 31, 2030.
- Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, ADG in BSF, appointed Special DG in BSF till superannuation on March 31, 2032.
- Vinayak Prabhakar Apte, Additional Secretary IB, appointed Special Director in IB on in-situ basis for two years.
- Manmeet Singh Narang, Additional Director IB, appointed Special Director in IB.
The only officer from the 1993 batch is Zaki Ahmad, Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer, appointed Special DG in CRPF till his retirement on March 31, 2028.
These appointments reflect the ACC’s effort to strengthen leadership in CAPFs and intelligence agencies while temporarily upgrading key posts to meet organisational needs.
