MOGA, July 31 — In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the CIA wing of Moga Police seized 1,700 kilograms of poppy husk and arrested two persons during a special operation near Bhinder Kalan village on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted a suspiciously parked truck on the Ludhiana highway. Upon inspection, officers discovered 85 plastic bags — each containing 20 kilograms of poppy husk — concealed in the vehicle.

The accused were identified as Gurjant Singh alias Bolla, a resident of Bhinder Kalan in Moga, and Kailash Kumar from Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. Both were caught red-handed while transporting the narcotics.

“They were nabbed during a planned operation,” said Dharamkot DSP Ramandeep Singh, who supervised the raid. “Further investigation is underway to uncover the source and destination of the drugs.”

An FIR has been registered under Sections 15, 61, and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the CIA Moga Police Station. The accused were produced in court and remanded to police custody.

Police said the duo is being interrogated to identify other members of the supply chain and to explore possible links to a larger trafficking syndicate.
