SHIMLA, Aug. 15 — Two Himachal Pradesh Home Guards personnel were awarded the President’s Medal for Meritorious Services on Independence Day for their exemplary dedication and long service.
Section Leader Asha Kumari of the 3rd Battalion, who joined as a volunteer in 1991, has served 34 years in the State Headquarters training branch. Known for meticulous record-keeping, she has enhanced departmental transparency and efficiency, and handled VVIP security, election duties, sensitive law-and-order assignments, and court-related cases with professionalism.
Honorary Platoon Commander Rajneesh Katoch of the 7th Battalion, Kullu, enrolled in 1992, is trained in firefighting, leadership, and disaster management. He has led rescue efforts during cloudbursts in Chagh Nallah and Manikaran Valley, and in challenging terrains like Himri Pass. His work in national parades, community disaster risk management, and blood donation drives has earned multiple commendations, including the DG’s Commendation Certificate in 2023.
