23 rescued as police raid illegal rehab centre in Ambala

by TheReportingTimes

Ambala, Aug 19 — In a joint operation with Health Department officials, Ambala Police raided an unlicensed drug de-addiction centre in the Saha area and rescued 23 individuals undergoing treatment there.

The action followed a tip-off, after which authorities inspected the premises and found the facility running without mandatory approval. The rescued individuals were shifted to Civil Hospital Ambala Cantonment, where they underwent psychiatric evaluation and medical examination before being reunited with their families.

Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Mukesh confirmed the illegality of the operation. “We received information from the SP office about the illegal operation. Although the centre operator had applied for a provisional license, it had not yet been granted, making their operation illegal,” he said.

Police said further investigation is under way to determine responsibility and take action against those running the centre.
