Mohali, April 13: In a substantial achievement, 26 cadets from the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (AFPI), Mohali, have secured positions in the all-India merit list for entry into the 154th Course of the National Defence Academy (NDA), scheduled to begin in June 2025.

This marks the highest number of cadets from the institute selected in a single batch. AFPI Director Major General Ajay H. Chauhan (retd) said that out of 34 cadets who appeared before the Services Selection Board, 26 were declared successful. Cadet Aryan Sofeth from Patiala secured the 9th rank nationwide, while 10 others placed among the top 100.

Set up in 2011 by the Punjab Government, AFPI has seen 255 of its cadets join various military academies, with 170 already commissioned as officers. Congratulating the cadets, Minister Aman Arora called them “the pride of Punjab” and also lauded AFPI alumni Gunjot Singh and Aryan Dutt for their selection to the Short Service Commission’s 64th Technical Course at the Officer Training Academy, Chennai.

The institute offers a two-year residential programme for boys post-matriculation to prepare them for the NDA. A similar facility, Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute, was later established in Mohali for women candidates
