CHANDIGARH, Aug. 22 — The Punjab Higher Education Department has promoted 27 associate professors and professors to the post of principal in the college cadre, Minister for Higher Education Harjot Singh Bains said Thursday.

“With these approvals, the entire promotional quota for principal positions stands filled,” Bains noted, adding that recruitment for the direct quota posts would also be completed shortly.

The promotions were cleared during a recent meeting of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC). Of the total, 13 faculty members have already assumed their new roles, while the remaining 14 will be elevated by December 2025 depending on seat availability.

Bains congratulated the promoted faculty members and urged them to approach their new roles with responsibility. “This is a moment of pride. I expect each of you to serve higher education with full commitment and dedication,” the minister said.

Administrative Secretary of Higher Education Anindita Mitra also extended her wishes to the newly appointed principals. “I hope the faculty entrusted with this responsibility will set higher standards in their institutions,” she remarked.

Mitra directed the promoted officials to submit their attendance reports to the Director of Higher Education within 10 days. She cautioned that failure to comply would result in cancellation of promotion and a two-year bar on further advancement.

According to the department, the promoted principals will remain on probation for one year, during which their performance will be closely monitored before confirmation.
