Chandigarh, August 31: Three police personnel in Chandigarh, including two head constables and a senior constable, have been suspended following allegations of bribery and misconduct while on duty.
The suspension order, issued recently, directs that head constables Suresh Kumar and Mukhram, along with senior constable Pardeep Kumar, all posted at the Industrial Area Police Station, be relieved from duty immediately and transferred to the Police Lines in Sector 26, Chandigarh.
The action follows a complaint by Balindra, a resident of Karnal, who alleged that on April 8, 2025, he witnessed senior constable Pardeep demanding ₹12,000 as a bribe “on behalf of his SHO” at a spa center in Sector 30. The complainant claimed to have secretly recorded the transaction on his phone.
According to the complaint, head constables Suresh and Mukhram later arrived at the scene and collected an additional ₹7,000 as their share. The complainant also accused Mukhram of calling a girl to the location and engaging in immoral acts in a closed room, with Suresh allegedly present during the incident.
The complainant, who said he attempted to approach senior officers the same day but could not, expressed fear that the accused policemen might retaliate or implicate him in false cases.
Following the complaint and video evidence, Chandigarh police conducted an inquiry into the matter, which culminated in the suspension of the three officers.
The police department has not yet commented on further disciplinary measures, but the suspensions come amid growing scrutiny over alleged corruption and misconduct within local law enforcement ranks.
