3 Held for IPL Ticket Black Market

by TheReportingTimes

MOHALI, May 30 — Three men were arrested for reselling Indian Premier League (IPL) tickets at inflated prices during the high-stakes First Qualifier between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore at Mullanpur Cricket Stadium, police said Thursday.

The suspects, identified as Naveen from Jind, and Darpan and Parharsh Anurag from New Delhi, had allegedly acquired a large number of tickets in advance and were found selling them illegally near the venue, according to police.

Senior Superintendent of Police Harmandeep Singh Hans said officers acted on a tip-off and apprehended the suspects red-handed as they attempted to sell tickets at black-market rates.

“They were exploiting fans’ enthusiasm for the playoffs by selling tickets at rates far above the official price,” Hans said, adding that a First Information Report (FIR) was filed under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Mullanpur police station.

Police have urged the public to help curb such illegal activities. “Anyone with knowledge of ticket black marketing should reach out to us immediately,” Hans said. Citizens can report such incidents by calling 9203200009 or 7710111912.

The arrests come amid increased scrutiny around ticket distribution for IPL matches, particularly as the tournament enters its final stages.
