350th Martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur: Nagar Kirtans Beginning Across Northern India

Chandigarh, November 5: As Punjab marks the 350th anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s martyrdom, four Nagar Kirtans will be held across north India state, covering a combined distance of 1,563 kilometres and concluding at Sri Anandpur Sahib on November 22, officials said.

Tarunpreet Singh Sond, Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, said the events are being coordinated by the state’s Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department. “We are reaching out to devotees globally to participate in these Nagar Kirtans and commemorate the Guru’s sacrifice,” he said.

The main Nagar Kirtan will begin on November 19 from Srinagar, travelling through Jammu, Pathankot, Dasuya, Hoshiarpur, Mahilpur, and Garhshankar. Scheduled overnight halts are at Jammu, Pathankot, and Hoshiarpur.

The Majha-Doaba corridor will see a procession from Gurdaspur on November 20, stopping at Sri Amritsar Sahib and Jalandhar, while passing through Batala, Baba Bakala, Tarn Taran, Goindwal Sahib, Kapurthala, Kartarpur, Banga, and Balachaur.

Malwa-1 and Malwa-2 routes, also starting on November 20, will respectively move from Faridkot and Talwandi Sabo. The Faridkot procession will halt at Ludhiana and Fatehgarh Sahib, covering towns including Ferozepur, Moga, Jagraon, Khanna, Sirhind, Morinda, Chamkaur Sahib, and Ropar. The Talwandi Sabo route will pause at Sangrur and Mohali, after passing through Bathinda, Barnala, Patiala, Rajpura, Banur, Kurali, and Ropar.

Sond highlighted the broader significance of the anniversary, noting that the events provide an opportunity for communities to come together in remembrance. He encouraged citizens to actively participate in both the Nagar Kirtans and related commemorative activities throughout the state.
