Mohali, July 25: Four people accused of running a fraudulent immigration consultancy from Phase 7 in Mohali were arrested by Mataur police late Wednesday night, following a raid triggered by a tip-off.
The suspects—Amandeep Singh of Bhago Majra, Pawan Kumar and Mansi from Sector 69, and Simran of Dehradun—were all allegedly part of AVM Global Immigration Consultancy, which police say had been duping visa hopefuls with fake promises of jobs and permanent residency abroad.
“The firm has been operating without a valid immigration licence for nearly four years,” said Assistant Sub-Inspector Sheespal Singh, who led the operation. “They lured clients with promises of study and PR visas to countries like Canada and Australia in return for large sums of money.”
During the raid, police seized numerous fake documents and case files, now central to the ongoing investigation. Officers are working to determine how many individuals were defrauded and how much money the accused collected over the years.
The consultancy failed to produce any official accreditation or licensing documents when questioned. According to police officials, it was functioning in clear violation of immigration norms and legal procedures.
A case has been registered under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (cheating) and Section 24 of the Emigration Act. Further probe is underway to trace other potential accomplices and victims.
