4 Himachal Cops Suspended for Buying Liquor in Uniform

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Aug 3— Four police personnel from Himachal Pradesh, part of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s escort team, were suspended on Saturday after a video surfaced showing them buying liquor in uniform from a shop in Chandigarh.

The video, now widely circulated on social media, shows the cops loading crates of liquor into their black SUV, drawing sharp criticism and embarrassment for the state government.

Solan superintendent of police Gaurav Singh confirmed that the suspended personnel — one sub-inspector and three constables — were returning to Solan after escorting the CM, who travelled to Chandigarh by road due to bad weather grounding his helicopter in Shimla.

“Two of the suspended are from the 6th India Reserve Battalion (IRB) and two from the Solan district police,” Singh said. “The video has been verified, and a departmental inquiry is underway. The matter is being taken seriously, and accountability will be ensured.”

The incident comes at a time when the Himachal Pradesh government has been running anti-drug and alcohol abuse campaigns, and working to strengthen rehabilitation infrastructure.

The roughly two-minute footage clearly shows the policemen, in full uniform, purchasing and loading alcohol — in direct violation of police conduct norms.
