400 Cops to Guard Kanwar Yatra

by TheReportingTimes

Panchkula, July 11: To ensure a peaceful and well-organised Kanwar Yatra, the Panchkula police have deployed nearly 400 personnel across the district for the pilgrimage set to take place from July 11 to 23.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Srishti Gupta said that strict directives have been issued to maintain law and order throughout the route. “Continuous day and night patrolling will be carried out near camps, langars, and major halts,” she said.

Quick Response Teams, motorcycle riders, and Police Control Room (PCR) units will be strategically stationed, with each PCR vehicle staffed by at least one woman officer to safeguard female devotees.

To monitor potential troublemakers, some officers will be deployed in plain clothes, dressed as ‘Kanwariyas’. “We are also keeping anti-riot police on standby to respond quickly if needed,” Gupta said.

Pilgrims have been urged not to use loud music systems or DJs on their vehicles, and to avoid consuming alcohol or intoxicants during the journey. Traveling on vehicle rooftops and carrying LPG cylinders have been strictly banned.

“All travelers must provide full details of their vehicle and driver to the nearest police station,” Gupta added. “Police teams will also keep a close eye on social media to counter any misleading or provocative posts that could disrupt public harmony.”
