4,566 Arrested Under Haryana’s ‘Operation Trackdown’

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, November 23 — Haryana Police said Sunday that thousands of alleged criminals have been arrested under a state-wide crackdown launched earlier this month, as top officials credited the drive with disrupting organised networks accused of planning violent offences. The initiative, known as “Operation Trackdown,” began on November 5 with the stated goal of intensifying law-and-order enforcement across districts.

According to an official statement, the campaign has netted 1,439 notorious, wanted and serious offenders, in addition to 3,127 other accused individuals, taking the total number of arrests to 4,566 so far. Police said the operation aims to immediately apprehend absconders, habitual offenders, criminal gang members and those suspected of plotting major crimes. Officers reported that multiple arrests took place while suspects were allegedly preparing to commit murder or attempted murder, which they say prevented planned attacks.

The DGP, O P Singh, addressed officers on X on Sunday, congratulating SHOs, DSPs, SPs, DCPs, police commissioners and senior ranks for progress made so far. He said the operation has dealt a “major blow” to criminal networks in the state and should continue without interruption. “Continuous and swift action has sent a clear message among criminals that there is no safe haven left for any unlawful activity in the state,” the police statement said, adding that swift prosecutions should follow.

Police claimed the campaign has already “saved the lives of 60 individuals” who were reportedly targeted in plots detected during arrests. Officials said intelligence lead-sharing has been strengthened and that coordination between units has increased since the drive began.

Singh urged officers to pursue court cases aggressively. “Ensure punishment in cases involving the Arms Act. Criminals should receive the message that the very gun they are brandishing will land them in prison for years,” he said. He further directed officers to dismantle the networks supporting offenders, including those managing illegal income, providing weapons or shelter, and generating favourable publicity online.

Police maintained that enforcement will continue at the same pace in the coming days, with officers stating that the objective is to eliminate organised criminal activity across Haryana.
