KARNAL, July 4: In what officials are calling one of the biggest anti-gambling operations of the year in Haryana, the Chief Minister’s Flying Squad, along with CID and local police, raided a house in Durga Colony, Gharounda, arresting 55 men and seizing ₹11.90 lakh in cash.
The overnight raid, conducted late Wednesday into Thursday, also led to the recovery of over 50 mobile phones, multiple vehicles, playing cards, coins, and dice from the property allegedly used as a gambling den.
DSP Sushil Kumar of the CM Flying Squad said the raid followed credible intelligence that a man named Rinku was operating the illegal activity from a rented house, collecting ₹50,000 daily as entry or hosting fees.
“As per our inputs, he comes daily to this place. He was present on Wednesday-Thursday as well, but managed to flee after getting wind of the raid,” said Kumar.
The arrested individuals, most of whom are said to belong to affluent families from Karnal, Panipat, Sonepat and Delhi, were produced before a local court on Thursday. Four of them have been remanded to police custody for further questioning.
Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest Rinku, the alleged mastermind behind the racket.
