Tarn Taran, November 11 — The Tarn Taran Assembly by-election witnessed a voter turnout of about 59 per cent by 5 pm on Tuesday, according to election officials. Polling began early at 7 am and was set to close at 6 pm, with officials reporting a largely peaceful day of voting.
Long queues were seen outside polling stations across several parts of the constituency, as voters stepped out to exercise their franchise. “Polling has remained smooth and incident-free so far,” an election officer said.
The constituency has a total of 1,92,838 registered voters — comprising 1,00,933 men, 91,897 women and eight third-gender voters. Voting was conducted at 222 polling stations spread across 114 locations, including four model booths and three pink booths.
Security was strengthened across Tarn Taran, with Punjab Police managing the outer security rings, while Central Armed Police Forces guarded the inner perimeters of polling centres.
Officials said the final voter turnout figure could increase slightly once reports from all polling stations are received. Vote counting for the bypoll will be held on November 14.
