by TheReportingTimes

NARAYANPUR, July 18 — Six Naxalites were gunned down in a prolonged encounter with security forces in the dense forests of Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district on Friday, police said.

The gun battle took place in the Abujhmad region during an anti-Naxal operation that began after intelligence reports indicated the presence of armed Maoist cadres in the area.

“A joint team of security personnel was carrying out an operation when it came under fire. There were multiple exchanges of gunfire throughout the afternoon,” a senior police official told PTI. “So far, we have recovered the bodies of six Naxals along with AK-47 and SLR rifles, other arms, explosives, and daily-use items from the site.”

The official added that the operation is still ongoing and further search efforts are underway to determine if more Maoists were involved or injured in the encounter. The identities of the slain Naxalites are yet to be confirmed.
