SANGLI, 23 June — In a shocking incident from Maharashtra’s Sangli district, a 16-year-old girl was brutally killed by her father, a school teacher, after an argument over her test scores turned violent. The attack occurred on Saturday night at their home in Nelkaranji village, Atpadi tehsil, police confirmed Monday.
The victim, identified as Sadhana Bhosale, was a Class 12 student. Her father, Dhondiram Bhosale, 45, reportedly lost his temper after learning she had scored poorly in a recent test. A heated dispute ensued, during which Bhosale picked up the wooden handle of a traditional stone grinder and struck his daughter repeatedly, said a police official.
The attack happened in front of the girl’s mother and younger brother, both of whom were at home at the time. “The teen was rushed to a hospital in Sangli but succumbed to her injuries during treatment. The post-mortem revealed multiple blunt force injuries as the cause of death,” said Senior Inspector Vinay Bahir of Atpadi police station.
Following a complaint lodged by Sadhana’s mother, police arrested the accused father. A case of murder has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
The incident has sparked outrage in the region, with locals demanding strict action and psychological support systems for students and families coping with academic pressure.
