CHANDIGARH, Aug 4 — Two men have been arrested for allegedly snatching a mobile phone from a 54-year-old woman during her evening walk in Sector 49-D on July 29, police said on Sunday. The incident took place around 6 p.m. near the tubewell area of the CHB flats, when the victim, Yashoda Devi, was walking near her residence.
According to police, two men riding a Honda Activa approached her, and the pillion rider swiftly grabbed her Motorola smartphone from her right hand before fleeing the scene.
Yashoda later lodged a complaint on August 2, telling police she could identify the assailants if presented in person. Based on her statement, the police traced and arrested Satish Kumar (32) and Anil Kumar alias Linda (25)—both residents of Mohali.
During interrogation, the snatched phone was recovered, along with two other mobile phones and four two-wheelers believed to be linked to similar thefts. Police said both accused have criminal backgrounds.
Satish, a Class 12 pass-out, works as a private patient caretaker and is a repeat offender. Anil, who is uneducated, works as an electrician, officials said.
Police have registered a case and are continuing investigations to determine the duo’s involvement in other snatching incidents across the city.
