Chandigarh, October 11, 2025 — Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday demanded justice for the family of late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, urging the Haryana Government to act against officers allegedly responsible rather than protecting favoured personnel.
Speaking to the media after meeting the bereaved family, Mann also appealed to the Government of India and Haryana authorities to stand with the officer’s family during their time of grief. He said he had brought the matter to the attention of the Governor of Punjab, who also serves as the Chief Administrator of Chandigarh, requesting immediate action against the officers named in Puran Kumar’s suicide note.
“The entire family is in trauma after the loss of the senior IPS officer, who hailed from a humble background,” Mann said. “The wife of the deceased officer is a daughter of Punjab and a senior officer’s wife in Haryana. It’s unfortunate that such cases of targeting weaker sections are on the rise in the country.”
Mann also referenced the trolling faced by high-profile figures, citing the Chief Justice of India as an example. “The troll army was making memes daily and targeting him as part of their nefarious agenda,” he said, drawing a parallel to broader issues of harassment and public targeting.
The Chief Minister’s statement comes amid heightened attention on the circumstances surrounding Kumar’s death and calls for a thorough investigation into the allegations outlined in his suicide note.
