CHANDIGARH, Oct. 18 — Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on Friday launched the curtain-raiser for the India International Science Festival (IISF) 2025, announcing that this year’s edition will be held at Panjab University from December 6 to 9. The festival aims to showcase India’s growing scientific prowess and strengthen the link between innovation and national development.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Singh said the IISF would serve as a vibrant platform for scientists, researchers, innovators and students to celebrate India’s achievements in science and technology. “The festival is not just about science—it is about connecting science with society. It will inspire greater public participation in science-driven progress,” he said.

The theme for IISF 2025, “Vigyan Se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Science), reflects the government’s focus on harnessing research and innovation to achieve Atmanirbhar Bharat and sustainable growth.

Dr Singh noted that India’s journey toward self-reliance depended on cutting import dependence and enhancing domestic capacity in critical sectors such as life sciences, agriculture, fuels and automotive technologies. “Our aim is to make science an integral part of economic growth and societal well-being,” he said.

Focus areas and regional participation

The four-day event will highlight five broad themes:

  1. Science, technology and ecology of northwest India and the Himalayan region
  2. Science for society and education
  3. Atmanirbhar Bharat through science and technology
  4. Biotechnology and bio-economy
  5. Integration of traditional knowledge with modern science

The IISF will also involve institutions from Jammu, Chandigarh and the Himalayan belt, focusing on region-specific innovations that promote sustainability, climate resilience and rural development.

Calling upon students, startups and citizens to take part in the festival, Dr Singh said the event would include scientific exhibitions, business-to-business meetings, competitions and cultural programmes, bridging the gap between laboratories and the public. “Science must not remain confined to journals or institutions—it should reach every household,” he said.

Launched in 2015, the India International Science Festival has grown into one of the country’s largest platforms for promoting scientific temper, innovation, and public engagement in science. This year’s edition at Panjab University is expected to attract participants from across India and abroad, reinforcing Chandigarh’s role as a hub of research and higher learning.
