Global food giants: Punjab govt draws over ₹1.23 lakh crore investments

Chandigarh, October 18 — Punjab’s push for industrial revival has received a major boost, with global players Nestle India, PepsiCo India, and Coca-Cola India making substantial investments across the state. Officials said the projects, worth over ₹1,000 crore, reflect growing investor trust in the pro-industry policies of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government.

According to the state’s Industry Department, Punjab has attracted investment proposals exceeding ₹1.23 lakh crore since 2022, led by the food processing sector. The government credits this growth to transparent decision-making, ease-of-doing-business reforms, and swift project approvals.
Nestle India has expanded its Moga facility with an investment of ₹583 crore, aimed at transforming the district into a global food processing hub. The project, cleared through Invest Punjab, offers incentives such as concessional power and infrastructure support. Equipped with advanced automation, the plant will generate hundreds of direct and indirect jobs.

Officials said nearly 90% of the milk processed at the plant is procured from Punjab’s local farmers and cooperative societies, strengthening rural incomes and the state’s dairy ecosystem. Chief Minister Mann described the project as a “model of farmer–industry partnership” and said it showcases how industrial growth can directly benefit rural communities.

In Ludhiana, Coca-Cola India has set up a ₹275-crore beverage manufacturing unit designed around a “green growth” model. The facility employs renewable technologies such as water recycling, solar energy, and waste management systems. The government facilitated the project through timely land allocation, tax incentives, and power subsidies. Officials said the plant has created several hundred employment opportunities while setting new benchmarks for sustainable manufacturing.
PepsiCo India has invested ₹30 crore to expand its food processing plant in Sangrur, which specialises in potato-based snacks. The company procures raw materials through contract farming, engaging thousands of local farmers. In collaboration with the government, PepsiCo has introduced training initiatives on sustainable agriculture, water conservation, and efficient resource use. The expansion has also encouraged eco-friendly packaging and energy-saving practices.
Punjab’s new industrial policy mandates Zero Liquid Discharge, Rainwater Harvesting, and Waste Recycling across all major projects, ensuring that industrial growth remains environmentally responsible. Officials said these measures have made Punjab a leading “Green Industrial State” — where progress aligns with sustainability.

Government figures show that since 2022, investment proposals worth ₹70,000 crore have already materialised, creating more than 4.5 lakh jobs in the state. In 2025 alone, Punjab attracted foreign direct investment (FDI) worth ₹8,000 crore.

Chief Minister Mann said his government’s vision was to make Punjab “a land of opportunity where every rupee invested benefits every citizen.” He added that Punjab’s development model—anchored in transparency, environmental care, and partnership—has become an example for other states.

Industry analysts say the success of global brands such as Nestle, Coca-Cola, and PepsiCo in Punjab marks a turning point for the state’s economy. “Punjab has moved beyond its agricultural legacy to become an emerging industrial powerhouse,” said an Invest Punjab official.
