Chandigarh, Oct 22 — Councillor Saurabh Joshi has come down heavily on municipal officials for what he termed a “deliberate manipulation” of the official minutes of the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) meeting held on September 26.
Joshi alleged that the committee, chaired by the mayor and attended by all members, had unanimously approved a proposal to extend permission for festive stalls until Gurpurab (November 5). However, he said, the resolution was later omitted from the official records. “The proposal was duly passed, yet it was intentionally deleted from the minutes by those responsible for documenting the proceedings,” Joshi said.
Condemning the act, he remarked, “This not only erodes the sanctity of the democratic process but exposes the malafide intention of certain officers who think they stand above the General House and the F&CC.”
The councillor said the omission had wider public implications as it obstructed initiatives that benefit traders and residents during the festival season. He further alleged that such tampering had become “a recurring and worrisome pattern” within the municipal corporation.
Joshi said he would soon file a formal complaint with the governor-cum-administrator of UT Chandigarh, urging an independent probe and strict disciplinary action against those involved. He also demanded that the deleted proposal and its resolution be reinstated in the records and that strong procedural safeguards be introduced to prevent future manipulation.
