Tarn Taran, November 14: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu has secured the Tarn Taran Assembly seat in Punjab, defeating Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) nominee Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa by 12,091 votes, officials said.

The counting of votes, held at the International College of Nursing in Piddi, was completed in 16 rounds. Sandhu emerged victorious with 42,649 votes, followed by Randhawa’s 30,558. Other contenders included Independent Mandeep Singh, supported by Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De), who polled 19,620 votes, Congress candidate Karanbir Singh Burj with 15,078 votes, and BJP’s Harjit Singh Sandhu at 6,239 votes.

The bypoll was necessitated after the passing of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal in June. Voting on Tuesday saw a 60.95% turnout.

Observers said the win demonstrates AAP’s ability to retain voter confidence in Tarn Taran despite challenges from multiple parties. “This result is a clear indication of the party’s steady support base in the constituency,” a political analyst noted.
