25 Dead in Goa Nightclub Fire; FIR Filed, Sarpanch Detained

GOA, Dec. 7 :— Police have filed an FIR against the owners, manager, and event organisers of Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub after a fire killed 25 people in Arpora village. The sarpanch who issued the club’s trade license has been detained.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant ordered a magisterial inquiry. “All six injured are stable. The inquiry will identify the cause and fix responsibility,” he said.

The fire broke out after midnight, claiming four tourists and 14 staff members, with seven victims yet to be identified. Preliminary investigations suggest it started on the first floor, and narrow exits trapped patrons.

Sarpanch Roshan Redkar said the club had disputes between partners and lacked construction permission. “A demolition notice was issued but stayed by the Directorate of Panchayats,” he added.
