PGI Tests HIS-2 at Sangrur Centre

by TheReportingTimes

CHANDIGARH, JAN 2: Towards digitising hospital services, the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) has begun trial implementation of its Hospital Information System version 2 (HIS-2) at the Sangrur Satellite Centre, with plans to extend the system to PGI Chandigarh.

Hospital authorities said the new system brings patient registration, billing and admission-related services under a single digital framework, reducing dependence on physical counters and manual processes.

“In the first phase, modules related to registration, billing and admission-discharge transfer have been implemented and are being used in routine work,” a hospital official said.

PGI Director Prof. Vivek Lal said the system would improve both efficiency and patient experience. “The new HIS-2 will streamline hospital operations and make services more accessible. Patients will not have to visit multiple counters, which will reduce delays,” he said.

Officials said the system would ease the burden on patients travelling from distant districts, who often arrive early in the morning to secure OPD cards due to limited technical awareness.

Training and trial runs for other key modules, including doctor interfaces, laboratory services and inventory management, are in the final stages and will be activated in the next phase.

PGI has been working on the HIS-2 project for an extended period, with the goal of creating a fully integrated, patient-centric digital ecosystem across its facilities.
