CHANDIGARH, Jan 29 — A special pilgrim train departed for Varanasi on Thursday as part of the state’s efforts to facilitate devotees celebrating the Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji. The send-off ceremony was led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, who were joined by several MLAs and local leaders.

During the event, the ministers shared details regarding the government’s long-term commitment to preserving the Guru’s legacy. Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak noted that the current administration is taking active steps to protect the interests of weaker sections of society by following the Guru’s social order.

“Guru Ji envisioned an ideal social order where no one suffers discrimination or hardship. By following these teachings, the Punjab Government is taking sustained steps to secure the welfare of the weaker sections of society,” Kataruchak said.

Minister Harpal Singh Cheema mentioned that the 650th Parkash Purab would feature a series of programs across the state. He said that a comprehensive plan has been developed to highlight the Guru’s teachings through various public platforms and research initiatives.

“Statewide programmes focusing on the life, teachings and travels of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji will be organised, and a detailed roadmap in this regard has been finalised in a meeting of the Cabinet Sub Committee,” Cheema said.

The delegation of leaders, which included MP Raj Kumar Chabbewal and MLA Kulwant Singh, interacted with the pilgrims before the train’s departure. The ministers noted that the message of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji serves as a beacon for humanity, transcending social and political barriers.

“A comprehensive plan has been drawn up to observe the 650th Parkash Purab on a large scale, and the government will ensure that the celebrations are held in a befitting and historic manner,” Kataruchak said to the departing crowd.
