Chandigarh, February 1: Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains and AAP Punjab In-charge Manish Sisodia advocated for the inclusion of Vedic teachings in the modern curriculum during an award ceremony in Ludhiana on Saturday. Speaking at BCM School, the leaders noted that the Vedas, Upanishads, and Gita are essential for shaping the character of students and driving meaningful social transformation.

The event, organized by Sanatan Seva Samiti and Ved Prachar Mandal, celebrated a year-long Vedic speech competition involving nearly 300 students from 25 schools. Minister Bains mentioned that education remains the only effective medium to instill core values in the next generation. He compared the molding of young minds to the careful shaping of a plant, noting that quality instruction in cultural heritage fosters better citizenship.
“If we wish to transform society, the only solution is to instill the very principles and values in the children through education,” Bains directly said during his address. He also praised the educational reforms initiated by Sisodia in the past, calling them an inspiring model for the sector.
Sisodia noted that ancient texts contain insights that align with modern scientific discoveries. He mentioned that if students engage with both traditional literature and contemporary science, they are better positioned to become exceptional researchers. He urged that these Vedic educational programs be expanded to all schools across Punjab to ensure a wider impact.
Following the ceremony, the leaders addressed the upcoming Union Budget, where Bains mentioned the urgent need for a special relief package for Punjab. He noted that current national spending on education, hovering around 1.5 percent, is insufficient to make India a global superpower. He said that at least 10 percent of the budget should be dedicated to schools and research to ensure progress.
