Moga, Feb 15: Moga police detained two suspects Sunday evening in connection with a shooting that targeted a group of migrant laborers earlier this week. Sources maintained that one of the individuals in custody is a village sarpanch from Ferozepur district, who is believed to have orchestrated the assault. The incident occurred on February 10 when three men on a motorcycle opened fire on seven laborers from Bihar as they returned to their rented rooms near a local rice sheller.

The attack resulted in injuries to two workers, identified as Ashok Kumar and Subodh Majhi, who were initially treated at a private facility. Officials affirmed that one victim required a transfer to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital for advanced care. While a manhunt continues for the primary shooters, investigators asserted that they have identified the gunmen through forensic evidence and surveillance footage.

Authorities noted that the investigation took a serious turn after a social media video emerged featuring two armed individuals claiming responsibility and issuing threats against the migrant community. Despite the breakthrough in detentions, senior officials declined to provide further specifics, noting that disclosure might hamper the ongoing investigation. The shooting has caused significant concern among the thousands of migrant workers employed during the district’s peak processing season.
