Punjab Prioritise Core Issues than performance: Warring Critiques Haryana CM

Congress Leader Says Religious Symbolism Cannot Resolve Interstate Water Disputes

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, March 2: Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, president of the Punjab Congress, declared on Monday that the BJP’s attempts to use communal symbolism will find no takers in Punjab. Reacting to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s frequent visits to the state while wearing a turban, Warring affirmed that such “theatrics” are a clear attempt to influence specific sections of the voters ahead of the next assembly elections.

Warring stated that the sudden adoption of religious attire by the Haryana Chief Minister is a political maneuver that underestimates the intelligence of Punjabis. He maintained that the electorate has always remained resistant to communal “venom” and remains focused on substantive governance. The Congress leader affirmed that Saini’s role as a representative for the BJP in Punjab is complicated by his primary responsibility to Haryana, particularly on sensitive topics like water sharing.

“If he believes that by sporting a turban he would appeal to a particular section of the Punjabis, he is badly mistaken,” Warring asserted. He noted that the Haryana Chief Minister’s focus seems to have shifted toward Punjab politics even as critical interstate issues remain unresolved. Warring stated that this strategy only proves that the BJP is “far removed” from the actual sentiments of the people.

The Punjab Congress president concluded by declaring that the state’s political identity is rooted in unity rather than division. He maintained that the BJP’s efforts to lure voters through communal politics or religious imagery will ultimately prove unsuccessful, as Punjabis continue to demand accountability on economic and regional interests rather than symbolic displays.
