AAP National Convener Alleges Mass Arrests In Gujarat Ahead Of Local Polls

Arvind Kejriwal writes to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel citing illegal detention of 160 members

New Delhi, April 2: Arvind Kejriwal has claimed that over 160 Aam Aadmi Party workers have been illegally arrested in Gujarat, with thousands more potentially facing detention. The AAP leader affirmed that he has written to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel seeking a formal appointment to discuss the situation, which he linked to the upcoming municipal and panchayat elections.

The statement noted that the current administration plans to target approximately 10,000 party workers in the coming days. Kejriwal asserted that the surge in arrests is a reaction to the increasing influence of his party within the state.

“The people of Gujarat do not appreciate such arrests and hooliganism,” Kejriwal stated. He maintained that the electorate is observing these actions and will respond accordingly at the ballot box.

Kejriwal declared that the BJP is deeply troubled by the growing footprint of the AAP in Gujarat. He affirmed that the use of state machinery to detain political workers reflects a lack of confidence from the ruling establishment.

The letter to the Chief Minister marks a significant escalation in the friction between the two parties prior to the local body polls. Kejriwal declared that the arrests are an attempt to suppress the democratic process, though he affirmed that his workers would continue their outreach efforts despite the ongoing legal pressure.
