CHANDIGARH, APRIL 25 — The third death anniversary of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was observed on Saturday with tributes from political leaders and family members across the state. In social media posts, SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal affirmed that the path shown by the late leader continues to inspire the party’s mission for the development of Punjab.
MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal stated that the “Baba Bohar” of Punjab politics would always be remembered for his humility and commitment to social harmony. While the village of Badal typically hosts significant commemorative functions, the site of the former leader’s funeral remained quiet this year. Sources within the party confirmed that no public religious ceremony was scheduled due to the family’s presence on a foreign tour.
The day also noted the stalled progress of the ‘Sardar Parkash Singh Badal Skill India Centre.’ The project, intended to provide vocational training to the youth in the late leader’s ancestral village, was announced with significant fanfare by the National Skill Development Corporation exactly one year ago. Local observers noted that the initiative remains confined to paper, with no tangible infrastructure or training activities initiated at the site so far.
Members of the Shiromani Akali Dal affirmed that the party remains resolute in fulfilling the vision of the late patriarch. Several leaders declared that his pro-people policies and emphasis on communal peace are more relevant today than ever. Despite the lack of a formal gathering, the memorial saw a trickle of visitors paying their respects to the man who served five terms as the head of the state government.
