Srinagar, May 5: A tragic accident on the Mughal Road has resulted in at least two deaths, with a high-stakes rescue mission ongoing for two other individuals. The incident came to light after a vehicle carrying four people disappeared amidst a heavy snow shower on Monday, prompting a large-scale response from the District Police and local rescue units.
During the course of the operation on Tuesday, the missing vehicle was discovered submerged in a nallah at Chhattapani. Rescuers managed to retrieve two bodies from the wreckage, but the other two occupants have not yet been located. “All efforts are being made to trace them at the earliest,” police officials declared, noting that the difficult weather and treacherous water levels have complicated the mission.
The identity of those recovered has not yet been formally released as local authorities continue their investigation. Sources maintained that the vehicle lost control on the snow-covered stretch before veering off the road. An official stated that the search operations are still underway to locate the remaining missing individuals, with teams utilizing specialized equipment to navigate the stream.
This latest incident has once again highlighted the dangers of traveling the high-altitude route during late-season snowfall. Police stated that the case remains under active investigation and that further updates will be shared as the recovery operation progresses. For now, the focus remains on the retrieval of the missing passengers and providing closure to the families involved.
