Chandigarh, May 19: A collegiate athlete from Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University has helped secure a silver medal for India at the 2026 Central South Asia Rugby Sevens tournament.

Amritpal Singh, who pursues his studies within the university’s specialized physical education division, concluded a successful international run in Uzbekistan. The national selection unit achieved a runner-up placement following an intensive gold-medal match against Sri Lanka to conclude the regional tournament cycle.

Singh’s transition to the senior international squad follows an extensive tenure in elite domestic tournaments. The regional standout previously recorded consecutive appearances at the All India Inter University Rugby competitions and built a distinct competitive reputation through high-profile performances at the National Games.

The academic board at the university organized an official acknowledgment session to celebrate the performance of Singh and his primary instructor, Sandeep Kumar.

“We congratulate Amritpal Singh and his coach Sandeep Kumar and wish them more great successes in the future,” declared Dr. Varinder Singh Bhullar, head of the physical education department.

The commendation statement, backed by Vice Chancellor Dr. Pritpal Singh and local rugby secretary Neeraj Kumar, noted that the university’s athletic infrastructure continues to develop international prospects. Program coordinators highlighted that fellow student Amandeep Kaur has similarly showcased regional strength during the Asian Rugby Sevens Series and will expand her professional development following a recent draft selection by the RPL Chennai Wools franchise.
