New Delhi, July 4: Both houses of Parliament are set to convene for the Monsoon session starting July 20 to deliberate on sweeping legislative updates, including new criteria for holding ministerial office. The high-stakes legislative calendar will extend until August 13, following an official proclamation issued by the President.
The central administration is preparing to introduce major legal structural reforms during the nineteen planned sittings. The focus remains heavily trained on the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, which intends to bind the redrawing of voting constituencies directly to the execution of the 33 per cent gender quota for female lawmakers in state assemblies and the Lok Sabha.
Sharing the administrative update, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju maintained that the executive branch is prioritizing a smooth legislative run. The Minister affirmed that the designated timeframe has been locked in to ensure extensive parliamentary dialogue and definitive action regarding vital matters affecting the country.
Parallel to the representation reforms, the government will pilot the contentious Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill. This specific piece of legislation outlines conditions under which top political executives, including a sitting Prime Minister or state Chief Ministers, must step down from their governance roles if they remain under custody or detention for more than thirty consecutive days without obtaining bail for serious charges.
