Pune, July 6: Intensive rescue efforts are underway across Pune district after torrential rains triggered multiple landslides and severe waterlogging, leaving three family members missing under a collapsed house in Maval tehsil. Emergency crews are working against challenging weather conditions to clear debris and manage a widening transport crisis.
The search operation centers on Patan village, where a cluster of early morning landslides severely impacted the remote community. The National Disaster Response Force, supported by regional police forces and local task forces, established a perimeter to search for the residents believed to be inside the structure when the hillside gave way.
“Due to heavy rain, three landslides occurred in a remote village in Maval,” affirmed Deputy Superintendent of Police Gajanan Tompe. “In one of the incidents, a house was buried under the debris. It is suspected that three people were inside the house when the landslide occurred in the early hours of Monday.”
Concurrent rescue efforts successfully resolved an escalating situation near the Ghorawadi railway station, where an NDRF team safely evacuated thirty-seven passengers trapped inside a waterlogged private bus.
The administrative focus has also shifted toward managing the critical arteries connecting major urban centers, with highway patrol teams executing partial openings where safe. While partial relief was provided by opening a single lane for Pune-bound traffic on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, travel in the opposite direction remains entirely suspended.
“The carriageway from Pune to Mumbai remains shut for vehicular movement,” maintained Superintendent of Police (Highway) Shivaji Pawar. “The old Pune-Mumbai Highway is also closed due to waterlogging at several stretches.”
