Chandigarh, July 19: Over half of the beneficiaries under Punjab’s Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana are women managing peak household responsibilities, with those aged 36 to 59 constituting the largest segment of the rollout. The initiative has successfully processed direct bank transfers for approximately 33 lakh women who registered by late June, while the rest of the 70 lakh enrolled women are set to receive their benefits at the start of August.
Administrative data indicates that the assistance precisely targets women facing intense financial pressures, including expenses related to college admissions, weddings, and elder care. The 46 to 59 age group accounts for 25.4 percent of the total, closely followed by the 36 to 45 demographic at 25.2 percent.
The personal stories emerging from the allocation show a wide variety of practical uses, ranging from immediate personal welfare to investments in the next generation’s aspirations. Karamjit Kaur, a 46-year-old self-help group member and former kabaddi player, detailed how she utilized her share for immediate mobility and health needs.
“Main taan is paise naal apni ainak banwai te scooty vich petrol pawa liya,” Kaur stated, explaining that she bought a new pair of spectacles and filled petrol in her scooter. Looking ahead, she declared, “In the coming months, I plan to use it for my son’s sports expenses. He is a national-level hockey player.”
The financial buffer has also proved vital for vulnerable households dealing with chronic illnesses. Baljit Kaur, a widow receiving the monthly assistance, affirmed that the funds enabled her to meet medical expenses that had otherwise become increasingly difficult to afford.
The collective experiences across the state indicate that the targeted monthly support functions as a reliable safety net. By placing funds directly into the hands of women during their most demanding life stages, the initiative helps stabilize domestic economies against the pressures of general inflation.
