New Delhi, July 24: Fresh amendments to tighten existing anti-cheating laws are expected to reach Parliament early next week following consideration by the Union Cabinet. The revised provisions under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, aim to introduce stricter penalties for malpractices and establish designated fast-track courts to handle cases efficiently.
“The draft bill will be discussed with cabinet colleagues before being brought to Parliament,” the Prime Minister declared while addressing the subject in a midnight message.
Existing legal frameworks penalise service providers up to Rs 1 crore for facilitating unfair practices, while individual offenders incur jail terms of up to five years. The proposed modifications seek to escalate these deterrents further, particularly targeting organized networks driving examination fraud. Official sources indicated that the administration aims to facilitate the swift passage of the bill during the ongoing Monsoon session.
