CHANDIGARH, AUGUST 12 — A viral video circulating across social media platforms falsely depicting narcotics issues in Punjab originated in Rajasthan, AAP State Media In-charge Baltej Pannu declared during a press conference in Chandigarh.
Refuting claims made by public figures including Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh and actor Sonu Sood, Pannu stated that unverified digital content is being spread to undermine state law enforcement efforts. He maintained that the administration remains firmly focused on eradicating substance abuse through structured police actions and grassroots community programs.
The media chief declared that historical governance gaps between 2007 and 2017 allowed narcotics challenges to take root initially, whereas current initiatives focus on long-term enforcement and youth development.
“Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the war against drugs is being fought on the ground through ‘Village Defence Committees’ under the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign,” asserted Baltej Pannu. “Anti-drone systems have been installed along the borders and ordinary people are sending information directly to the DGP and the Chief Minister.”
Presenting operational statistics from March 2025 through August 2026, Pannu affirmed that state police have taken firm action, apprehending tens of thousands of individuals and seizing substantial contraband, including 3,575 kg of heroin and over ₹21.71 crore in drug money.
Pannu maintained that state-sponsored sports development programs in rural areas are successfully engaging local youth, creating pathways for athletes to achieve national recognition. He affirmed that the government and local communities stand united against false narratives intended to misrepresent the region.
