CHANDIGARH, AUGUST 12 — Comprehensive burn care worth ₹1.39 crore was extended to 265 patients across Punjab without out-of-pocket expenses through the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, health authorities announced in Chandigarh. The welfare initiative covers immediate emergency care alongside months of follow-up reconstructive procedures.
The State Health Agency recorded significant utilization among younger age brackets, including twenty-six treatments for women aged nineteen to thirty and thirty-nine treatments for young boys. Patients faced diverse medical needs ranging from acute electrical burn care and specialized antibiotic dressings to complex skin flap operations and ear reconstruction.
Addressing the long-term impact of burn injuries, Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh declared that state medical coverage ensures complete physical recovery remains accessible to every resident regardless of financial standing.
“A burn can change a person’s life in seconds, but recovery often takes much longer,” asserted Dr. Balbir Singh. “For a burn victim, cashless treatment can therefore mean something very practical; when the fire is finally out, the family does not have to face another fire, that is, the hospital bill.”
The health minister maintained that post-burn contractures represent a significant proportion of secondary treatments, with seventy-five procedures performed to help patients regain movement and daily function. Data indicates that Bathinda recorded the highest overall utilization with ₹33.51 lakh disbursed across sixty-three procedures, followed by substantial numbers in Faridkot and Patiala.
Medical leadership affirmed that removing financial barriers enables families to maintain continuity of care throughout intensive dressing cycles and essential reconstructive surgeries.
