Chandigarh, August 17: A significant majority of citizens accessing mental health support under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana belong to the young adult and working-age demographic, according to official figures released by the State Health Agency.

The statistics indicate that out of 709 beneficiaries who received treatment valued at ₹83.36 lakh over a seven-month period, 533 individuals were between 18 and 45 years old.

“Mental health concerns are often ignored until they begin to interfere with daily functioning, by which time they are harder to manage,” asserted Dr Gagandeep Sekhon, Consultant Psychiatrist at Civil Hospital Barnala, maintaining that timely intervention remains crucial for active populations.

The recorded cases spanned a broad spectrum of conditions, including stress-related syndromes, behavioral disorders, mood disruptions, and psychoactive substance dependence.

“The Bhagwant Mann-led government has been working towards making healthcare more accessible and affordable for every family in Punjab, with special attention to the health and wellbeing of our youth,” declared Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh.

He maintained that combining the scheme’s annual ₹10 lakh cashless coverage with broader health programs helps build a cohesive framework spanning prevention, clinical care, and de-addiction services across the state.
