Channi Slams Hooda over Sajjan Kumar Tribute

by TheReportingTimes

Ludhiana, August 22: Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has fiercely condemned Haryana leader Deepender Singh Hooda’s tribute to Sajjan Kumar, exposing a deep fracture within the Congress party over the legacy of the late politician convicted in the 1984 anti-Sikh violence.

The backlash from Punjab leaders intensifies pressure on the state unit to completely separate its political stance from Hooda’s description of Kumar as an exemplary leader whose death marks an irreparable loss.

Speaking during a visit to Ludhiana, Channi flatly rejected any attempt to whitewash Kumar’s history, declaring him an inhuman person who must be held accountable for the targeted killing of Sikhs in Delhi.

“Even after all these years, the people who lost their loved ones continue to carry deep trauma in their hearts,” Channi said.

The internal opposition has sparked widespread anxiety within the Punjab Congress leadership, as figures like state president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring face intense scrutiny over the party’s cohesion on this highly sensitive issue.
