KOHIMA, Sept 26 — Law enforcement authorities in Nagaland initiated an intensive investigation following the death of 19 individuals due to the suspected consumption of spurious liquor.
The deaths were recorded over a 48-hour period, with Tuensang reporting 11 fatalities and Mokokchung logging eight. SSP Vesupra Kezo affirmed that a high-level Special Investigation Team under ASP I Bunglang Chang is actively probing the distribution channels. “We have obtained some leads, but it is too premature to disclose details,” the officer stated.
A state-wide enforcement drive resulted in the arrest of 19 suspects and the recovery of nearly 3,000 liquor bottles. Police confirmed that forensic analysis of seized samples is underway in Guwahati to confirm chemical contamination.
Medical advisories have been issued across the affected districts, cautioning residents against consuming unverified liquor products while state authorities enforce prohibition directives.
