Administrative Intervention Sought as Middlemen Drive Up Sugar Costs Before Diwali

by TheReportingTimes

ROPAR, OCT 15: Wholesale grocers and confectionery manufacturers in Ropar district called for urgent administrative monitoring following a rapid rise in sugar procurement costs ahead of the upcoming festival season. Business owners asserted that restrictive direct sales policies by regional mills have created an artificial scarcity, placing immense financial pressure on bulk consumers reliant on raw sugar for traditional sweet production.

Industry spokespersons declared that restrictions on direct mill purchasing have empowered third-party distributors to exploit seasonal demand. Wholesalers maintained that the non-acceptance of bulk orders by processing units has forced local vendors to buy at premium rates, threatening higher retail prices for consumer goods and festive essentials.

In response to trade representations, civil supplies officials declared that field inspections will be ordered immediately to assess stock movements across the district. State authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining fair trading practices, warning that any entities found hoarding essential commodities or charging unauthorized cash surcharges will face prompt legal action.
