29 July, Chandigarh: On Monday, a local court denied former Haryana minister Sandeep Singh’s request to be removed from the case while filing charges against him in an alleged molestation case that was filed two years prior.
The IPC’s Sections 354, 354-A (sexual harassment), 354-B (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of woman) have all been cited by the court in framing the charges for the offenses.
In the meantime, the complainant’s request to hold a trial for rape accusations against the former minister was denied by the court.
On December 31, 2022, at the Sector 26 police station in Chandigarh, the police had filed a case against the minister based on the complaint of a junior women coach.
The junior coach said in the Police complaint that on July 1, 2022, she was groped at the official bungalow of the former minister.
The former minister claimed that because the woman’s requests for training and a posting overseas were not fulfilled, the complaint made against him was based on untrue allegations.
The Chandigarh Police, however, objected to the discharge request.
