Warring Pushes for Immediate Panjab University Senate Polls

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, December 21, 2024: Punjab Congress chief and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring met Vice President and Panjab University Chancellor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday, urging him to address the prolonged delay in the university’s senate elections. Warring emphasized the importance of restoring the democratic functioning of the institution.

Ahead of Dhankhar’s visit to Panjab University on Saturday, Warring described the delay in elections as a serious concern. “The university’s elected senate is not just procedural but is integral to ensuring impartial and inclusive governance,” he said. Warring warned that the ongoing delay hampers decision-making and leaves key issues unresolved, directly impacting students and faculty.

Calling for urgent action, Warring added, “This delay creates a leadership vacuum, affecting the university’s trajectory and undermining the democratic rights of its community. Panjab University has been a torchbearer for democratic governance in education, and the restoration of the electoral process is essential to uphold that legacy.”

Warring also stressed the broader implications of the delay, framing it as a question of preserving democratic principles in educational institutions. “By resolving this issue swiftly, we send a strong message about our commitment to democracy and good governance in higher education,” he remarked.

The senate elections are crucial for the functioning of Panjab University, whose governance model is considered a benchmark for other institutions across the country.

Warring urged the Vice President to act promptly to resume the electoral process and reaffirm the university’s democratic identity.
