Mullanpur Stadium Likely to Host ICC Women’s ODI World Cup Final

by TheReportingTimes

Mohali, March 27 — The Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium in Mullanpur is poised to host the final of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup on October 26, along with eight league matches.

According to sources in the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI), the tournament schedule will be released soon, with Mullanpur expected to be a key venue. “The stadium is set to host several matches, bringing top international women cricketers to the region,” a BCCI official said. The event begins on September 29.

The IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali may also secure a few league matches. Other confirmed venues include Visakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, Raipur, and Indore.

This will be the first time India hosts the Women’s ODI World Cup since 2013, when the team exited in the group stage. The country last hosted the women’s T20 World Cup in 2016, with Mohali staging three matches.

The 2025 edition will follow the 2022 format, featuring eight teams playing 31 matches. India’s women’s team has twice come close to lifting the ODI World Cup—reaching the final in 2005, where they lost to Australia by 98 runs, and in 2017, falling short by nine runs against hosts England.

Meanwhile, the Mullanpur stadium is also set to host a Test match between India and the West Indies in October. With the Women’s World Cup scheduled the same month, BCCI is considering adjusting the dates or relocating the Test to another venue.

In April, the stadium will host four Punjab Kings home matches during the IPL season. The 38,000-capacity facility, which took over a decade to complete, successfully hosted IPL matches last year.
