Amritsar, May 18 — In two separate operations on Saturday, Amritsar police arrested three individuals on charges of drug trafficking and recovered over 1 kilogram of heroin along with ₹45.19 lakh in cash, officials said.
Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the arrests were made following intelligence-led operations in different parts of the district.
In the first case, police raided a rented house in Anand Vihar and arrested Rahul Singh, also known as Kalu, a 20-year-old resident of Thathi Sohal village in Tarn Taran. Officers recovered 510 grams of heroin and ₹30.18 lakh in cash from the premises.
“Initial findings suggest Rahul was in touch with a foreign-based smuggler named Tony German. He received heroin consignments from across the border and distributed them locally,” Bhullar said.
In a separate operation, two other individuals — Gurmukh Singh (21) of Sudhar Rajputan village in Amritsar and Varinderpal Singh (32) of Akalgarh Dhaphian village — were apprehended by police. Authorities seized 500 grams of heroin and ₹15.19 lakh in cash from the duo.
Police said both cases appear to be part of broader cross-border drug smuggling networks and investigations are underway to track their connections.
“All three accused are in custody, and further questioning is helping us unravel the routes and handlers involved,” Bhullar said.
Authorities have registered cases under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
